- Bill Gates published an essay on 26 August 2026 arguing that the AI transition lacks an adequate public plan.
- He names Human Reserved as a possible domain of work kept for people, analogized to a nature reserve: a place that could be developed, but is not, because the loss would be too great.

Human Reserve is not only a question of which tasks remain under human authority.
It is also a question of whether time, place, and terms of participation still allow that authority to be exercised.
Environments that let a person pause a connection, and choose where attention goes, are added here as an observational object — not as a proven intervention.
